# Adding custom data

Upload turbine specifications, on-site measurements and site geodata to a shared library, and use them in any simulation.

Whiffle Wind simulations contain standard turbine models and global geodata. Custom data lets a simulation use something more specific: e.g. a turbine that is not among the default models, geodata that is more accurate than the global datasets, or actual site measurements.

Three types of custom data can be uploaded:

* **Turbines** describe the turbine specifications placed in the simulation.
* **Measurements** describe the wind climate observed at the site.
* **Geodata** describe the ground the flow moves over.

#### Turbines

The power and thrust curves of a turbine model.

A custom turbine can be selected for any position in a simulation, alongside the turbine models Whiffle Wind provides.

#### Measurements

A met mast time series of wind speed and wind direction.

Attaching measurements to a simulation calibrates the modelled wind resource grid towards the measured wind climate. Both the calibrated and the non-calibrated result are produced.

#### Geodata

Elevation and vegetation data for the site.

Custom geodata takes precedence over the global datasets pixel by pixel: it is used wherever it covers the simulated area, and the global dataset fills in the rest.

#### The upload process

Every upload passes through the same steps.

* 📝 **Draft.** The entry is saved while its details are filled in, so the form can be left and returned to. A draft cannot be used in a simulation.
* ✅ **Final.** The entry becomes selectable in a simulation. Marking it final requires its details to be complete.
* 🔁 **Correction.** A final entry is corrected by uploading the data again as a new entry, which leaves the original untouched.

Marking an entry final is a deliberate step, because a final entry can no longer be edited. A simulation therefore always points at exactly the data it ran on, which keeps the result traceable.

Custom data is uploaded once and can be reused in any number of simulations.

{% hint style="info" %}
Uploads are shared within an organization. Every member can see its entries and use them in their own simulations.
